10 items to pack this winter (as well as your travel cover)

Ski season is almost upon us. And so is Christmas. So it’s a good time to start thinking about your wish list from Santa. Have you been good this year?

Once you’ve got your essentials - Winter Sports travel insurance, gadget cover from CoverCloud, waterproofs, skis, bindings, boots, gloves and poles - you might want to think about some of those nice to have extras that every skier or snowboarder would love to have. Here’s our top 10.

  1. The new Hero 5 Black GoPro.

This is the ultimate GoPro and it’s just been released into the wild for your pleasure! It’s got all the knobs and whistles – touch screen, voice control, 4K video, on button control and a totally waterproof design. And it’ll fit all of Go Pro’s accessories so you can starp it to your helmet, chest, a selfie stick or even your snowboard for some fabulous snow related action. When the sun shines it’s hard not to look amazing!

The SP Connect iphone case protects your phone whilst also giving you the ability to add gadgets and mounts to enhance your picture and video taking experience. You can use GoPro mounts with it too, which is perfect if you want the versatility but without the cost.

  1. Add a fisheye to your phone

Lenses on phones aren’t that wide, which means you can’t always get the angles you need. SO why not add a fisheye lens to your phone and make it shoot like a GoPro? It’s easy with the Hook that up with a Fisheye and you are all set to shoot at super close range. The advantage of shooting with a super wide angle lens is that a lot of the lumps and bumps get smoothed out when the camera is moving – perfect for the way you ski!

  1. NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES

Sliding down the slopes listening to your favourite music is like putting yourself in a movie of your holiday. Suddenly you’ve got a crystal clear soundtrack to your day ringing in your ears. And if you are going to play the lead in the movie of your life, better make sure you have the very best quality sound. A good pair of Bose will do it.

  1. GET IN THE BUFF

People love their Buffwear. But what is it? Well… it’s a hat and headscarf and neckerpiece and insulating thingummy that is great for the slopes. They are available in all kinds of designs and colours. Worn by outdoorsy people.

  1. The get-you-home Garmin watch

People who love gadgetry will love this. It’s a watch that gets you home after your day on the slopes, tells you how high you are, how your training is going and can even let your nearest and dearest know your whereabouts. Clever stuff. And it looks great too… No one will know you’re wearing it. Until you really need it, that is.

  1. A helmet that sings to you

Seriously, it won’t serenade you exactly, but it will play your music wirelessley while you board or ski safely down the mountain. For people who like muzak on the moguls it’s another essential piece of kit. And it could save your life.

PROTECT YOURSELF WITH A RECEPTOR BUG

  1. Avalanche tracker from BCA

If you plan to go off piste then you’ll need this, no question. This seems to be the tracker of choice for a lot of reviewers so we’re going with it as one of the top marques to go for. But if you don’t, make sure you go for something! Getting caught in an avalanche is a real risk in some areas and it’s your responsibility to be well protected. It could save your life.

  1. Track your ski partners any time

The Snocru is an app that allows you to keep tabs on your friends and family while they are skiing in the mountains. So no more losing Dad in a drift. You’ll be able to see exactly where he’s gone and how he got there. Essential for wayward skiers and snowboarders who might go off piste without knowing it.

  1. Oakley Airwave with built in HUD

For skiers who want all their data and info right where they can see it, the Oakley Airwave is the ultimate in goggle telemetry. All your info – speed, distance, air time and vert time – gets beamed (or something) straight into your eyeline in the heads up display. You can even get a feed from your GoPro straight to your goggles… amazing!!!!
